Answer in brief
CVE-2026-40011 records a Low severity (CVSS 3.7) vulnerability in Prometheus denial of service via crafted DNS queries. The current sources do not mark it as known exploited. The current feed maps PowerDNS/DNSdist (generic). Check affected ranges and fixed versions before updating.
Analysis pending evidence review
HOL Guard separates source facts from reviewed analysis. See the methodology.
CVSS is 3.7. The current sources do not mark it as known exploited. Treat this as a source-backed prioritization signal, not a statement about your environment.

An attacker sending a large number of crafted DNS queries might be able to trigger a dynamic block being inserted with a value causing invalid output to be produced in the prometheus endpoint. The prometheus endpoint will then be rejected by the scraper until the dynamic block expires.
