Answer in brief
CVE-2026-69097 records a High severity (CVSS 7.0) vulnerability in GitPython before 3.1.53 Config Injection via Submodule Names. The current sources do not mark it as known exploited. The current feed maps gitpython-developers/GitPython (generic). Check affected ranges and fixed versions before updating.
Analysis pending evidence review
HOL Guard separates source facts from reviewed analysis. See the methodology.
CVSS is 7.0. The current sources do not mark it as known exploited. Treat this as a source-backed prioritization signal, not a statement about your environment.

GitPython before 3.1.53 fails to properly escape section names in git config files, allowing attackers to inject arbitrary configuration directives through malicious submodule names. Attackers can inject core.sshCommand or other dangerous config keys into the victim's .git/config via create_submodule or clone_from operations, achieving remote code execution when git performs ssh operations.
