Pre-payment checks for x402: live probes, test buys and on-chain proof

justinedwardvolmer/settled-skill · unreleased source · Tools & Integrations

by justinedwardvolmerOwner verified

The problem: x402 lets AI agents pay APIs per request, but nothing stops an agent from paying an endpoint that's dead, mispriced, impersonated, or never delivers. The agent finds out after the USDC is gone.

About Settled

The promise: Settled checks the endpoint first. One call before paying returns a signed verdict (pay, caution or avoid) and the field that decided it.

The proof: Settled doesn't take the seller's word for it. It probes every listed x402 endpoint itself, makes real USDC test purchases and compares what comes back with the listing, follows each seller's payments on Base, and screens payees against the OFAC list. Every answer is signed, so an agent can verify it came from Settled.

What you get:

  • An agent skill that makes Claude (or any agent) check before paying, and say why
  • The Settled MCP server: 13 free tools, 300 checks a day, no key
  • settled-x402 on npm to guard every payment in code
  • For sellers: x401 payer records, so you can give agents with a real payment history more free calls, without logins
