Nightshift gives Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor **accountable long-running coding shifts**. Use a finite checklist until every item is complete, or an open-ended goal with a time budget that keeps working until quitting time. **During the run** — shift files show what is finished, active, parked, blocked, decided, tried and rejected, and what remains. You can understand the run without digging through hours of chat, and compaction or resume does not wipe that working state. **Enforcement** - A clock-out gate refuses an early stop while work remains. - Unattended questions are recorded so the agent can decide and continue. - Owner rules can block commands, protected paths, and forbidden diffs. - A watchman recovers failed sessions: on Claude Code it detects `API Error: 500` and retries when the API returns; on Codex it resumes the recorded session after the process dies. **After the run** — those same files become the reviewable record: commits, decisions, snags, logs, receipts, remaining work, and how the shift ended. Archive every shift, accepted or rejected, so you keep a durable history of what happened instead of a pile of old chats. Local-first. No server. No API keys. MIT
